SAVE OUR MAJOR - DID YOU KNOW THAT?
SAVE OUR MAJOR

The following is an article written by one of the affected students.
DID YOU KNOW THAT?
You may be aware that,
The University Of Newcastle has many problems with bullying, and that there is an uneven distribution of power. There is very low accountability and transparency for actions and decisions made by the people in power. This means that the university is able to make changes without student or staff consultation.
What you may not know is that,
As a result of a review of the Bachelor of Arts program at the University of Newcastle there are drastic changes in the works with little to no student or teacher input or consultation. The university is seeking to dismantle one, if not more, important majors in the Bachelor of Arts degree and are sacking tenured staff.
The review, which according to the university rules should have been available for student and staff feedback for many weeks, has been rushed through with only three days for discussion. This came after the university had been in possession of the review for months and had already begun instituting changes before the feedback forums.
The fact is that the review has given recommendations based on figures concerning failure rates and class numbers that do not seem to align with reality. We are pushing for the university to release these figures so that we can stop these unfair changes that are taking place. So please sign our petition and help us push for a more accountable, less monocratic university.
